The new year is the perfect time to reconsider our goals and how we want to impact the world. This January, we have the opportunity to reflect on how we can make this year better than the last, not only for ourselves but for our community as well.
Everyone has faced difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially those who own small businesses. Local restaurants have had to adapt in ways they never have before by developing new takeout, delivery, and outdoor dining systems while prioritizing the health of customers and employees. In 2020, more than 110,000 restaurants had to close due to the pandemic, which comes to about 17 percent of all US eateries.
If one thing is certain, it is that it’s more important than ever to support restaurants however we can. Here are a few of our favorite restaurants near The Edward that are so good it will make it easy to support them!
Pastars
Owned by Chef Lee, two-star trained Michelin chef, Pastars offers some of the best pasta in town. After working in a variety of restaurants throughout the United States, Lee ultimately decided to open his own restaurant in California to provide a unique experience to diners. Using the freshest ingredients, they craft their own pastas and specialty dishes from scratch.
Not only is their food delicious, but they also offer convenient methods for takeout and delivery. Their website features online ordering for pickup, in-restaurant dining options, as well as delivery through DoorDash. They even have gift cards available for purchase. Gift cards are a great way to support local restaurants during the pandemic: They can serve as gifts to your loved ones as a reminder that you love them, or you can save them up to use when you need a nice pick-me-up. Order soon and you can reap the benefits of the 10-percent-off deal they currently have online!
Cali Veggie
Cali Veggie is a wonderful option for our vegan residents. This restaurant is seriously delicious, and it’s affordable, too. With a variety of dishes with fresh vegetables to choose from, you won’t run out of good food to try here. Our personal favorite dish is their curry, which you can purchase in a $6 combo box with six food items over rice. Only want to try one thing? You can also buy any dish for only $2.50.
They are also following COVID-19 protocols to ensure the safety of their customers. Not only do they wear masks and enforce social distancing in their restaurant, but they also provide hand sanitizer. Plus, they have options for takeout, delivery, and sit-down dining.
D Thai Chinese Restaurant
D Thai Chinese Restaurant is the perfect place to fuel a fun movie night with your roommates featuring Chinese takeout. A hole in the wall located only five minutes from The Edward, you’d never guess how great the food is, but it will not disappoint. With options for both Chinese and Thai food, all of your roommates will find something they want, and you’ll never run out of new dishes to try. There are also meat and vegetarian options that are sure to satisfy any dietary restrictions.
Although they don’t currently offer delivery, takeout is available, and you can even call in an order ahead of time. Because the health and safety of their customers and workers are their top priority, employees wear both masks and gloves.
If you can afford to, eating out is an excellent way to support small local restaurants and treat yourself during a challenging time. If all of us work together to support each other, we can help make this year better than the last. A little effort can go a long way! Here at The Edward, we are here for you. Don’t hesitate to reach out for anything you need.
